Warda
A contemporary fable contrasting the logic of high finance with the power of imagination
« There are objects we cannot own ; they are the ones that own us. »
Lost in the streets of London, Jasmin, a young finance wolf from Montreal, meets Hadi, a young man trying to sell him a precious rug with mesmerizing patterns. What could have been a simple transaction turns into a true puzzle when the seller asks Jasmin for the password that will seal the deal.
Warda takes us on a journey reminiscent of flying carpet legends, from London to Antwerp, passing through Paris, Baghdad, and Quebec. Along the way, Jasmin encounters, besides the mysterious rug seller, his aunt Colombe, an ambassador’s wife hosting Lily, a young Canadian in Paris to study Foucault’s work ; Anneleen, a Flemish writer living in seclusion in Antwerp ; and even the ghost of his own mother, Rose.
From one stop to the next, questions arise : Who is Warda ? What is her connection to the rug and the mysterious Hadi ? And above all, how are her existence and Jasmin’s inextricably linked ? Warda is a key-laden tale, an initiatory quest, a journey through space and time.
