A cofounder of Deux Mondes, his career has been inextricably linked with the company, having been closely involved with practically all its productions, first as an actor-presenter and then as a director. He directed Crying to Laugh in 1981, the show which led to international acclaim for the company as it was staged over 550 times until 1988. He co-created Promised Land, a coproduction with Teatro dell’Angolo of Turin (580 presentations from 1989 to 2000). He initiated and directed The Tale of Teeka (1991) by Michel Marc Bouchard. The Tale of Teeka (546 presentations) earned several accolades including a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award in 1993. The 90s also brought another new exploration: that of how multimedia can serve theatrical purposes. With Michel Robidoux (sound and music environment) and Yves Dubé (video and visual design), Daniel Meilleur further developed his palette as a co-conceptualist, visual designer and director : Leitmotiv (1996), Living Memory (2001) and Notes from the Journey Home (2008). More than thirty years of touring and appearances at numerous international festivals have made Deux Mondes a player on the world stage, and have secured Daniel Meilleur’s undisputed status as a specialist in theatre for all audiences.
